$ Timex Men s T42761 Expedition Adventure Tech Digital Compass Watch

I work on development projects in challenging locations around the world and so I wanted a good travel watch with some simple way-finding ability, multiple time zones, durability and good looks without screaming "steel me, I'm expensive!". Having an altimeter and/or barometer would be interesting but a little gimicky and those watches tend to be really big and since I'm not that tall or big those watches tend to look bulky and feel clunky on my wrist.

This watch at first glance on-line met all my criteria. Having purchased it and having it now on my wrist it is just what I want. The leather band looks good (one step up from rubber) and appears tough enough to live through the wet, hot, humid, sandy, parched conditions of my travels. The watch itself looks great but not flashy and is quite lightweight (a plus). The Indiglo is subtle (lights the letters/numbers, not the background) and it is not too much larger than the traditional Timex Expedition I wore for eight years. Using the compass entails some reading and fussing but that's a pretty easy learning curve for a feature I will definitely use.

I'll see how the band holds up to travel but should be more comfortable than the fabric Expedition band that stayed wet and clammy for a long time after a soaking. All in all, highly recommended.
